The last criminal case against Donald Trump has been closed in the United States

On 27 November 2025, in one of the most dramatic twists in American politics, the Georgia Supreme Court officially closed the last remaining criminal case against President Donald Trump. This was a high-profile allegation of interference in the 2020 election, which was once considered one of the most serious threats to the political careers of the 45th and 47th presidents of the United States. This decision puts an end to a series of legal proceedings that lasted more than two years and covered four major cases.

The case in Georgia, known as the ‘RICO investigation’ (named after the federal law against organised crime), was initiated in August 2023 by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Trump and 18 of his associates were accused of attempting to rig the election results in a key state where Joe Biden won by a narrow margin. The charges included conspiracy to commit insurrection, document falsification, and pressuring officials to ‘find’ the missing 11,780 votes in favour of Trump — exactly the number needed to win.

Trump’s famous phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which he asked him to ‘find’ these votes, became a central element of the indictment. In August 2023, Trump surrendered to authorities in Atlanta, where he was photographed for the first time in the famous ‘magshot’ — a photograph of an arrested person. It was the climax of the drama: millions of Americans watched the events unfold live.

However, the case stalled. At the end of 2024, Willis was removed from the investigation due to allegations of ethical violations and conflicts of interest (in particular, her romantic relationship with the prosecutor hired for the case). She was replaced by special prosecutor Pete Skandakis, who was appointed in early 2025. After Trump’s re-election in November 2024 and his inauguration in January 2025, Skandakis filed a motion to dismiss the case, citing presidential immunity and difficulties with evidence.

On 26 November 2025, the judge granted the motion: ‘Since the prosecution has filed a motion to dismiss the case against all remaining defendants, the court grants this motion. The case is dismissed in its entirety.’ This applies not only to Trump, but to all co-defendants, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows.

The closure of the case strengthens Trump’s position ahead ofthe key challenges of his second term: the economy, immigration and foreign policy. Butthe echoes of the 2020 scandals will remain. Some cases against Trump’s allies (such as the fake electors) are continuing in other states. And Trump will likely use this as an argument in his campaign to ‘clean up’the judicial system.

As a result, 26 November 2025 will go down in history as the day Donald Trump finally got off scot-free. For some, this is a triumph for the ‘people’s president’; for others, it is an alarming sign of the fragility of American democracy. In any case, this is not the end of the drama, but only a new act in the endless series called ‘Trump’s America.’
