United States President Donald Trump has expressed support for updating and strengthening measures aimed at countering espionage and criminal activity associated with the Chinese Communist Party.
According to the president, the United States cannot allow China to continue to undermine the American economy, technology, and national security through intellectual property theft, cyberattacks, and covert influence. Trump emphasized that during his first term, the Justice Department’s well-known “China Initiative” was launched, which uncovered numerous cases of economic espionage and covert cooperation with China.
“We stopped this program under Biden—and that was a huge mistake. China only increased the pressure. Now we’re going back to a tough approach, but smarter and more effective. No racial profiling—just facts, evidence, and protecting America,” Trump said in a press statement.
The administration is considering restarting the program under a new name or in an expanded format, with a focus on:
combatting technology theft from universities and high-tech companies;
investigating ties to China’s “Thousand Talents” plans and military structures;
strengthening oversight of Chinese investments in critical US industries.
Experts note that this move fits into Trump’s overall second-term strategy: “America First” through economic pressure and technological breakaway from China.
The Justice Department and the National Security Council are expected to present specific proposals for a new version of the initiative in the coming weeks. The White House has already made it clear that combating the CCP’s influence remains a top priority of the Trump administration’s foreign and domestic policy.
