EU bans AI-generated content in 0fficial communications

The European Parliament and the EU Council have adopted amendments to the AI Act prohibiting the use of content fully or partially generated by artificial intelligence in official communications of EU institutions, as well as in documents of national governments and public authorities of member states.

Under the new rules, all press releases, official statements, reports, legislative initiatives, and public announcements by EU authorities must now be created exclusively by humans. The use of AI for writing texts, generating images, video, or audio materials in official channels is completely prohibited.

The rationale behind the ban is to ensure credibility, transparency, and to eliminate the risks of disinformation. The official voice of Europe must remain human.

Only auxiliary use of AI is permitted — for example, grammar checking in standard text editors, without generating new content.

The rules will take effect gradually: for EU institutions — within the coming months; for national governments — by the end of 2026. Violations may result in disciplinary action against officials and the suspension of publication of disputed materials.
