The European Commission has reacted to Russia’s statements directed at the Baltic states regarding the alleged permission to use their airspace for Ukrainian strikes. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier emphasized that any attack on an EU member state would be considered an attack on the entire Union.
“An attack on one of our member states is an attack on the EU as a whole,” Regnier said during a briefing.
According to him, the European Commission has seen media reports about threats from Russia toward Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The EU representative reminded that there are four flagship initiatives aimed at protecting member states from external threats, among which the priorities include strengthening air defense—specifically the European Sky Shield initiative and a drone protection program.
Regnier added that the EU also considers the concerns of the Baltic nations and continues efforts to reinforce the bloc’s collective security.
Brussels’ reaction came amid recent warnings from Moscow toward the Baltic states, which Russia accuses of assisting Ukraine in strikes on Russian territory.
