Sweden’s Security Service (Säpo) has detained two men suspected of organising shipments of advanced engineering equipment to Russia in circumvention of European sanctions.
According to Säpo, the suspects assisted Russia in procuring high-technology products that may be used in the defence industry, including in the war against Ukraine. The equipment falls under the dual-use category and is subject to EU sanctions restrictions.
One of those detained is a Swedish national; the other is a Turkish citizen. Court documents confirm that one of the men was formally remanded in custody at a Stockholm court on Friday, while a hearing to extend the detention of the second suspect was held on Monday.
Law enforcement officers carried out searches at several locations in Stockholm, as well as in the south and west of the country. The investigation has established that the supply scheme had been operating since at least June 2025.
Swedish authorities have stressed that violations of this kind directly contribute to strengthening Russia’s military-industrial complex. The investigation is ongoing.
