The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated that the European Union must respond to the pace of Ukraine’s reforms with the same speed with which Kyiv adapts its legislation to the bloc’s standards. She made this statement at the GLOBSEC security conference in Prague.
According to Metsola, Ukraine, a country at war, has demonstrated impressive legislative and technical progress that would take other countries years.
“If anyone had told us that a country at war because it was attacked would be able to achieve such impressive legislative and technical progress that would take other countries ten years! Therefore, we cannot afford to be distracted by not responding to this speed with equal speed,” the President of the European Parliament said.
The President of the European Parliament also called for the opening of the first negotiating clusters with Ukraine, emphasizing that no alternative cooperation formats can replace the country’s full membership in the European Union.
