One of the largest protests in recent years took place in the center of the Serbian capital on Saturday. Tens of thousands of citizens, including many students, took to the streets under the slogan “Students win!” (Studenti pobeuu).
The protesters demanded the immediate resignation of President Aleksandar Vučić and the entire current government, as well as early parliamentary elections. The protesters accuse the authorities of an authoritarian style of governance, corruption, and disregard for public interests.
According to organizers, more than 50,000 people took to the streets. Demonstrators gathered outside the Skupština (parliament) building and then marched through the central streets of Belgrade. The protest was largely peaceful, although there was a heavy police presence in some areas.
The protests have been ongoing for several months and have intensified significantly following incidents at universities and accusations of falsification of the previous elections. Students became the main driving force of the movement, as underscored by the protest’s main slogan.
There has been no official response from President Vučić or the Serbian government to today’s protest.
This is not the first major protest against the current government in 2025–2026. The opposition and a segment of society are demanding radical political change in the country.
