Germany records highest number of politically motivated crimes in 2025

Last year, Germany recorded a record number of politically motivated crimes.

The number of politically motivated crimes recorded in Germany in 2025 is a record high compared to previous years. The number of violent crimes rose by 1.2% to 4,156. The relevant statistics were published by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Criminal Police Office.

In total, there were 85,837 politically motivated crimes – almost 2% more than in 2024. In most cases, the offences were committed by right-wing extremists, but the proportion committed by left-wing extremists rose sharply: in this category, the increase was as much as 43%.

The number of religiously motivated crimes rose by 5.7% to 1,983 cases; those motivated by ‘foreign ideology’, by contrast, fell to 6,886 cases.
