Romania’s political crisis continues to escalate

The Parliament of Romania has officially denied a vote of confidence to the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea. This decision has intensified political tensions in the country.

Following the failed vote, Romania has now been without a fully functioning government for 47 consecutive days

.Only 189 deputies voted in favor of Veștea’s candidacy, falling short of the minimum 233 votes required for approval.

Veștea is the second candidate nominated by President Nicușor Dan for the position of Prime Minister since the resignation of Ilie Bolojan’s cabinet.

Previously, Eugen Tomac also failed to secure parliamentary support and was unable to form a majority.Following the announcement of the results, Adrian Veștea expressed disappointment but formally accepted the decision of the legislature.

The politician stressed that each day without an effective government negatively impacts Romania’s international image. If a Prime Minister is not approved within the next 60 days, early parliamentary elections will be held in the country.
