Hungarian Prime Minister calls for constitutional changes

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has submitted a draft bill of constitutional amendments to parliament. Among the key proposals is the possibility of early termination of the current president’s mandate.

According to Magyar, this is the first precedent in 36 years in which changes to the Constitution are being made not behind closed doors, but in consultation with the Hungarian people.

Main provisions of the bill:

Limiting the right to serve as a member of parliament to 12 years (three terms).

Termination of the mandate of the current President of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok.

Péter Magyar stated that it is impossible to fundamentally rebuild the country while Tamás Sulyok remains in office. He accused the president of having “supported a government involved in dismantling the rule of law.”

The proposed amendments now await parliamentary review. The initiative has already sparked significant resonance in Hungarian society and political circles.
