June 2026 became the bloodiest month for civilians in Ukraine  — UN

In June 2026, Ukraine recorded the highest number of civilian casualties since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. This was stated by Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, during a UN Security Council meeting.

According to preliminary data from the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR), at least 265 civilians were killed in June, and another 1,816 people were injured. These figures exceeded those of previous months and became a record high since February 2022.

“June has been the deadliest month for Ukraine’s civilian population,” DiCarlo emphasized. She noted a significant increase in strikes on civilian infrastructure and residential areas, which led to a sharp rise in casualties among non-combatants.

The UN has repeatedly stressed that the real casualty figures are likely significantly higher, as not all incidents can be promptly verified. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the deaths of more than 15,850 civilians, including hundreds of children, have been confirmed, and over 44,000 people have been wounded.

Rosemary DiCarlo once again called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic conflict resolution, stating that “there is no military solution.”
