Poland’s Prosecutor General requests European Parliament to lift immunity and arrest far-right MEP

Poland’s Prosecutor General has submitted an official request to the European Parliament to strip immunity from Grzegorz Braun, a Member of the European Parliament from the far-right Confederation party, and to authorise his arrest and compulsory transfer to the prosecutor’s office.

This is not the first such request from Polish authorities regarding Braun. Earlier in 2026, the European Parliament already lifted his immunity multiple times on various criminal charges, including accusations of Holocaust denial, antisemitism, and other provocative actions.

The Polish prosecutor’s office intends to hold Braun accountable on new or ongoing cases. Specific details of the current request have not yet been made public, but previously the MEP has been accused of:

Public denial of the Holocaust;

Hooliganism and provocations in the Sejm (Polish parliament);

Incitement of hatred on national and religious grounds;

Other incidents linked to his radical political activities.

The European Parliament is expected to review the request from Poland’s Prosecutor General at a meeting of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI), followed by a vote in the plenary session. If immunity is lifted, Polish law enforcement will be able to detain Grzegorz Braun and bring him in for questioning and further procedural actions.
