According to the results of a joint sociological survey conducted by Ipsos and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), 51% of Germans support the complete closure of the country’s borders to refugees. The poll was released on July 14.
The results indicate a significant hardening of German attitudes toward migration policy. More than half of respondents favor a radical solution — a full halt to accepting refugees. Another 33% believe that Germany has already taken in enough migrants.
The study reflects growing public concern over issues of integration, strain on the social system, security, and budget expenditures. Germany remains one of the main EU countries receiving refugees, but in recent years debates in society about the limits of acceptance and border control have intensified.
The Ipsos and UNHCR survey was conducted as part of a global study on attitudes toward refugees. Its results highlight a growing gap between the position of a significant part of society and the current migration policy of the authorities.
Earlier in 2025–2026, Germany recorded a decrease in the number of asylum applications, yet the problem of integrating previously arrived migrants remains a sharp topic in public and political discussion.
