Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 60 Russian and Iranian missiles and drones — including decoy targets — have illegally flown over Moldova’s territory. This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defence.
According to the National Army’s Air Operations Centre, 60 such incidents were recorded and tracked between 2022 and 2026. The breakdown by year is as follows:
2022 — 5 incidents
2023 — 4 incidents
2024 — 15 incidents
2025 — 21 incidents
2026 (as of 28 July) — 15 incidents
Defence Ministry analysis shows that Russian drones flew over almost every region of the country. The highest number of incidents was recorded in areas near the border with Ukraine.
Of the 60 illegal overflights, debris from drones and missiles was found on Moldovan territory in 28 cases. At least 12 of the incidents involved drones or their fragments that contained explosives.
Thus, despite Moldova’s neutral status, the republic’s airspace continues to be regularly violated amid Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
