Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has announced the creation of a new political party, Development Plus (Rozwój Plus), which he will lead. The party is expected to be formally established by 15 October 2026 at the latest.
The announcement followed Morawiecki’s final break with Law and Justice (PiS), the party he previously represented. He said PiS leadership had sought to marginalise his group from the outset and that membership in the party is now effectively over. “Now that our membership is ‘dead’ — meaning we have been permanently expelled from Law and Justice — I can announce that we will indeed form a political force no later than 15 October,” he stated.
A founding convention is planned for 15 October, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2023 parliamentary elections. Morawiecki described the event as a potential “turning point” for Polish politics.
Development Plus began as an association founded on 15 April 2026 by Morawiecki and other PiS figures. It presented itself as a centre-right group focused on economic development, patriotism and Christian democracy. In late July 2026, its supporters formed a separate parliamentary club of the same name in the Sejm, comprising around 40 MPs and one senator and ranking as the third-largest group in the lower house.
The split stemmed from a month-long internal conflict within PiS between Morawiecki’s moderate wing and a more conservative faction. Party leaders had demanded that association members resign and sign loyalty declarations, a demand the group refused.
The new party will continue the association’s agenda. Key priorities include a sovereign migration policy, expansion of nuclear energy, tighter tax enforcement, major strategic investments, and a strong emphasis on patriotism and national security, alongside criticism of aspects of the European Union’s climate policy.
The launch of Development Plus as a full political party further fragments Poland’s right wing and could reshape the political balance ahead of the next elections.
