Hungary publishes data on HUF 400 Billion in NGO funding under Orbán

The Hungarian government has launched an interactive map providing information on the distribution of state grants to NGOs between 2022 and 2026. According to Prime Minister Péter Magyar, the platform makes public information on approximately HUF 400 billion in funding and around 20,000 organisations, with data broken down by electoral constituency and locality.

Magyar accuses Viktor Orbán’s government of operating a “mafia-style” system for channeling public funds through affiliated and ostensibly independent NGOs. The examples cited include the Batthyány Foundation, which reportedly received approximately HUF 65 billion; Mathias Corvinus Collegium, around HUF 52 billion; the Land of Future Generations foundation, associated with János Lázár, approximately HUF 27 billion; János Áder’s Blue Planet Foundation, around HUF 24 billion; the Kommentár Foundation in Veszprém, around HUF 22 billion; and Sándor Lezsák’s Népfőiskola Foundation, approximately HUF 6 billion. Local organisations in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County are also cited as having received grants ranging from HUF 50 million to HUF 250 million.
