The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) has signed a 14-million-euro contract for the procurement of unmanned combat drones, as Finland continues to bolster its military capabilities.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the FDF announced that it signed an agreement on 24 August with Finnish technology firm Insta Group to supply First Person View (FPV) drones for training purposes. The aerial devices are also capable of carrying weapons and other payloads.
According to the FDF, the procurement is part of a long-term programme to develop drone and unmanned systems capabilities across the Finnish armed forces. The new systems will expand unmanned aerial vehicle training to all brigade-level units, marking a significant expansion of the country’s drone warfare capabilities.
It said all of the acquired systems will be manufactured in Finland. The contract includes training, spare parts and maintenance services.
The Finnish Army began training conscripts to operate FPV drones at the Army Academy in autumn 2025. From the beginning of 2026, the training was extended to other brigade-level units throughout the country.
