An assassination attempt on President Vučić and his family has been thwarted in Serbia

Serbian Interior Ministry officials have detained two men suspected of plotting an assassination attempt on President Aleksandar Vučić, his wife, and children, as well as attempting to violently overthrow the constitutional order.

According to the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs press service, the arrest took place in the city of Kraljevo. The suspects are D.R., born in 1975, and M.R., born in 1983, both local residents.

According to investigators, from December 2025 to February 2026, the men conspired to violently change the constitutional order and overthrow the highest organs of state power. As part of their plan, they discussed acquiring weapons, attacking law enforcement officers, and assassinating the President of the Republic of Serbia, his wife, and children.

“The detainees are suspected of preparing an act against the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Serbia,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in an official statement.

President Vučić and his family members have not been harmed, and the threat to their lives and health has been eliminated. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation, including checking for possible connections between the detainees and other individuals or groups.

Officials are not yet releasing further details of the operation, citing the interests of the investigation.
