Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has announced that his country will officially join the multinational peacekeeping mission in Ukraine if a sustainable ceasefire is achieved and a peace agreement is signed with Russia.
The statement was made following a meeting of the “coalition of the willing” in Paris on January 6, where Ukraine’s European allies signed a declaration of intent to deploy forces to ensure security. Belgium will contribute air and naval forces, as well as participate in the training of Ukrainian military personnel.
“Together with a broad coalition of partners, Belgium will assume its share of international efforts aimed at preserving peace in Ukraine after the end of hostilities,” De Wever emphasized. He confirmed that Belgium will provide aircraft and naval forces to support the mission, which will operate under an international mandate.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by European countries to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. The coalition includes dozens of countries, including France, the United Kingdom, and other EU and NATO members. The mission involves deploying multinational forces to monitor the ceasefire and prevent the conflict from reigniting.
