Latvia has transferred another group of Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Latvian Ministry of Defense on September 16. Along with the vehicles, Riga supplied additional equipment to support Ukrainian units.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds that his country will maintain its support for Ukraine for as long as necessary.
“In the hands of Ukrainian defenders, these Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers will be used in the most challenging combat conditions. This will also allow us to gain valuable experience for strengthening Latvia’s own defense,” the ministry stated.
The Patria 6×6 is a modern multi-role combat vehicle developed by the Finnish company Patria. It is designed to transport troops and perform frontline operations.
Its armor meets NATO STANAG 4569 standards, providing protection against small arms fire, artillery fragments, and mine blasts.
The vehicle is equipped with an independent suspension system and a powerful engine, allowing it to cross rough terrain, traverse water obstacles, and reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, with an operational range of 700 kilometers.
According to the Latvian Ministry of Defense, the government ordered these vehicles in February 2025 at Ukraine’s request. Riga plans to deliver a total of 42 Patria 6×6 vehicles along with additional military assets. Earlier deliveries were assigned to the Ukrainian Army’s 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.
The Patria 6×6 program is part of a broader European framework. In August 2021, Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany signed a joint agreement to procure more than 200 of these vehicles.
In May 2025, Latvia the delivery of 1,500 combat drones to Ukraine as part of the international drone coalition.
The shipment was included in a larger program to produce 12,000 unmanned systems in the first half of the year, funded through a joint coalition mechanism to which Latvia contributed €5 million.
