Only 11% of Europeans view the US as an ally

Only 11% of Europeans surveyed view the United States as an ally – compared with 16% six months ago and 22% in November 2024.

25% view the US more as a competitor or rival.

Trust in the US has fallen in all countries. The only notable exceptions are Poland and Hungary. In particular, perceptions of the US are noticeably more positive among supporters of the Polish conservative party Law and Justice.

Attitudes are also more positive in the UK among supporters of Nigel Farage’s populist Reform UK.

Half of those surveyed view the US as a “necessary partner”.

The majority of respondents in all countries believe that the US would not come to their aid if they were attacked
