Polish intelligence services detain soldier suspected of ties to Russian intelligence

Poland’s Internal Security Agency has detained a serviceman from the 12th Greater Poland Territorial Defense Brigade on suspicion of cooperating with Russian intelligence. This is another case in which Polish security services have neutralized a potential threat within military structures.

The arrest took place on March 30, 2026, in Poznań. The regional prosecutor’s office charged Jarosław K. with acting in the interests of a foreign intelligence service. According to investigators, the suspect collaborated with Russian intelligence between July 2023 and April 2024.

As Gazeta Wyborcza established, nine days before his arrest Jarosław K. attended a rally in Warsaw held by “Rodacy Kamraci,” a pro-Russian and anti-Western movement. Notably, he had only enlisted in the Territorial Defense Forces on March 8, 2024, meaning the core of the alleged offenses predates his service in the territorial brigade. He had previously completed voluntary compulsory military service.

Immediately upon notification of the brigade command, the soldier was discharged from service. The court refused to authorize pre-trial detention, so the suspect remains free under police supervision and subject to a travel ban.

The case was opened on the basis of materials from the Military Counterintelligence Service. The investigation is being conducted under prosecutorial oversight and remains classified. Jarosław K. has not admitted guilt. If the charges are proven, he faces a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
