Spanish intelligence services have concluded that a new large-scale attempt by migrants to reach Ceuta could occur in the near future. Calls for a mass border crossing are once again actively circulating online.
This action closely resembles the one that led to the breakthrough in late July 2026, when between 50,000 and 70,000 people, according to various estimates, entered the Spanish exclave on the northern coast of Africa. Most of them later returned to Morocco, though dozens of people died (estimates range from 60 to more than 100).
According to intelligence data, the number of messages on social media platforms — Facebook, WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram — urging a new mass crossing is growing. Organizers are proposing to swim around the Tarajal breakwater on 15 August or even earlier to avoid reinforced security. The volume of such calls is higher than before the July events, so the new wave is likely to be even more intense.
Spanish authorities are already strengthening security measures in Ceuta and neighbouring Melilla. Officials previously linked the July breakthrough to the spread of false rumours about a Spanish Supreme Court ruling that restricted the practice of immediate returns of migrants intercepted at sea.
