The UK has officially joined NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, through which allies fund the purchase of American weapons and military equipment for Ukraine. This was announced by UK Defence Secretary John Healey.
According to the British Defense Minister, the country will contribute £150 million to the PURL initiative. The funds will be used to acquire critical systems, primarily air defense systems, needed by Ukraine to defend against Russian attacks.
“I am pleased to confirm that the UK is contributing £150 million to PURL. Together, we must provide Ukraine with critical air defense capabilities in response to Putin’s brutal onslaught,” said John Healey.
The PURL program was launched in the summer of 2025 at the initiative of the USA and NATO as a mechanism to allow allies to continue supplying American weapons to Kyiv in the face of reduced direct military assistance from Washington. Through PURL, countries finance the production and procurement of American-made equipment, including Patriot air defense systems, ammunition, and other priority equipment.
To date, several billion dollars have been invested in the initiative (estimates range from $4-5 billion by the end of 2025), and the United Kingdom became one of the last major NATO allies to join the program. Approximately three-quarters of the Alliance’s members are already participating in PURL.
