On February 24, 2026, the UK Ministry of Defence announced the launch of a multinational force headquarters for the so-called “Coalition of the Willing.”
According to the department’s official statement, a 70-person headquarters is currently operational, preparing for the possible deployment of troops from participating countries after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. The preparation of the British contingent is supported by £200 million in government funding.
The headquarters of the “coalition of the willing” was initially established in Paris (in the Fort Mont-Valérien area) in July 2025 under the joint leadership of the UK and France. It is planned to relocate the headquarters to London within a year. Following the commencement of the deployment, a coordination center is also expected to be opened in Kyiv under the command of a British officer with the rank of two-star general.
Today, February 24, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, together with French President Emmanuel Macron, will hold a videoconference with representatives of countries participating in the “coalition of the willing.” The meeting is planned to discuss further steps in preparing a multinational force that could eventually serve as a guarantor of Ukraine’s security within the framework of a possible peace settlement.
The “coalition of the willing” unites approximately 34 countries (including most NATO members except the United States, Hungary, North Macedonia, and Slovakia, as well as several other states) willing to contribute troops to a potential peacekeeping/guarantee mission in Ukraine after a ceasefire is achieved.
