S. President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a new structure — the AI Force. According to him, it is meant to develop the industry and oversee it without holding back technological growth.
The White House chief wrote about this on Saturday on Truth Social. He compared the planned structure to the U.S. Space Force, which was created during his first presidential term and which he called a “tremendous success.”
Trump also said he would soon announce the nominee to lead the new structure — an “AI Czar.” “Only high I.Q. individuals need apply,” the president emphasized.
In his assessment, artificial intelligence will become the next industrial revolution or a new internet, but on an even larger scale, and could account for as much as 25% of U.S. GDP. The United States, Trump said, is leading China and the rest of the world in this field, and he intends to keep that advantage.
The administration, according to the president, “will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry.” On the contrary, it will “cherish it, help it, and watch over it.” At the same time, he noted, “BAD” in the industry can be identified through the existing criminal and civil justice system. That, he said, is precisely why the AI Force is being created.
The White House has not yet clarified whether the new structure will be military (like the Space Force) or civilian, or what its powers, staffing, and budget will be. The previous AI czar, David Sacks, left the post earlier this year.
The announcement came amid calls from some politicians and industry figures to slow the development of advanced AI models because of warnings about risks. Trump called such concerns a hoax. The topic of AI is expected to be discussed at his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping next week.
