Trump imposes 25% tariffs on all of Iran’s trading partners

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing 25% additional duties on goods from all countries that continue to trade significantly with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the text of the decree, all countries whose trade turnover with Iran exceeded $2 billion in 2025 (except for humanitarian trade, medicines, and food supplied through UN channels) are subject to the new sanction’s tariffs.

Key provisions of the new regime:

A 25% duty applies to all imports from the offending country (not only to goods of Iranian origin).

The tariff comes into force 45 days after publication, on February 27, 2026.

Countries may be removed from the list by fulfilling two conditions simultaneously:

A reduction in trade with Iran of at least 85% compared to 2024,

A complete cessation of purchases of Iranian oil and petroleum products.

President Trump wrote in a brief statement on Truth Social: “Iran continues to fund terrorism around the world. Those who help Tehran make billions will pay for it along with them. Simple rule: trade with Iran, pay 25% Trump tariff. No exceptions.”

Official Tehran has already called the decision “economic terrorism against the entire global South,” while China and India have announced that they are preparing “mirror measures.”
