London Mayor Sadiq Khan has stated that the recent wave of negative social media posts targeting the British capital is being driven by supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump and Russia.
In his remarks, Khan accused “coordinated foreign and political forces” of organizing a campaign to undermine London’s reputation. According to him, in recent months there has been a significant increase in posts on Twitter (X), TikTok, and other platforms criticizing crime levels, the transport system, migration, and the overall state of the city.
“We are witnessing a well-organized campaign aimed at discrediting London as a global city. This involves both accounts linked to hardline supporters of Donald Trump and Russian influence sources,” Sadiq Khan said.
The mayor noted that many of these posts share similar narratives and are spread simultaneously, which, in his view, points to coordinated activity. Khan emphasized that this activity has intensified following Trump’s recent statements about the situation in European cities.
Representatives of the London mayor’s office said that disinformation specialists are already analyzing the sources of the most viral content. Authorities plan to обратиться to social media platforms with demands for a more proactive response to suspicious activity.
