Two men charged in the UK with national security offences over incident near Fairford airbase

The Crown Prosecution Service of the United Kingdom announced on 27 October 2026 that charges have been brought against two men under the National Security Act 2023. The charges relate to an incident that took place on 27 September near RAF Fairford airbase in Gloucestershire.

The defendants are 24-year-old British nationals Mohmed Abdulkarim and Nouman Essghir, both residents of the London borough of Westminster. Abdulkarim is charged with assisting a foreign intelligence service (between 31 August and 28 September 2026). Essghir is charged with being in a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the interests of the United Kingdom (on 22 August 2026).

According to counter-terrorism police, the country linked to the investigation is Iran. RAF Fairford had been used by US B-1 bombers for strikes on Iran; the aircraft were withdrawn from the base for security reasons following the September incident.

Frank Ferguson, Chief Crown Prosecutor for the CPS Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division, said:

“The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute two individuals with National Security Act offences following a Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into a high-profile incident involving RAF Fairford. We will continue to work closely with our partners as this complex investigation continues.”

Five other people detained in connection with the case remain on bail. The prosecution reminded that proceedings are active and the defendants have the right to a fair trial.
