More than 2,000 attacks on railway infrastructure recorded in Germany in six months

In the first six months of 2026, Germany has recorded over two thousand incidents involving attacks on Deutsche Bahn railway infrastructure facilities. This was reported by sources in law enforcement agencies and the transport company itself.

According to preliminary data, most cases involve acts of vandalism, arson of cables, damage to tracks and signaling equipment, as well as theft of metal components. These actions lead to serious disruptions in train schedules, especially in densely populated regions — North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and Saxony. In some cases, delays reached several hours, affecting tens of thousands of passengers.

Police do not rule out that some of the attacks may be of an organized nature, linked to protests, left-wing radicals, or even foreign influence. Similar incidents have been recorded in recent years, but the current figures have become record-breaking. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has launched an investigation into possible links with extremist groups.

Experts link the rise in attacks to the overall increase in social tension, economic problems, and the vulnerability of Germany’s extensive railway network. The authorities promise to tighten penalties for such crimes and allocate additional funds for security.

Passengers are urged to monitor updates in the DB Navigator app and be prepared for possible schedule changes. Deutsche Bahn states that it is doing everything possible to minimize the consequences of the incidents.

This situation highlights the relevance of transport security issues in Europe amid geopolitical instability. Detailed statistics for the first half of the year are expected to be released by the authorities soon.
