British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who will leave office next week, answered questions from MPs for the final time in the House of Commons. During the traditional session, he delivered an emotional farewell speech.
Answering questions from MPs for the last time as head of government, Starmer declared that he was leaving the United Kingdom in a better state than when he took office.
“This is the end of my political journey,” he said, summing up the work of his government. The Prime Minister thanked his colleagues, civil servants, Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle, and his family. He expressed special gratitude to his wife and children.
After his speech, Starmer received a standing ovation from Labour MPs and some members of other factions. Chancellor Rachel Reeves, according to witnesses, was overcome with emotion.
