The German defense company Rheinmetall has proposed the creation of large-scale arms manufacturing facilities on Polish territory. Sources close to the negotiations between the company, and the Polish government report this development.
According to preliminary information, the project involves the construction or significant expansion of factories to produce ammunition, armored vehicles, and other types of weapons. The initiative aims to strengthen Poland’s defense capabilities amid geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe and to improve the compatibility of the country’s armed forces with NATO standards.
Rheinmetall already has experience cooperating with Poland. Previously, the company announced plans to localize production in the region, including the possible construction of factories for artillery shells and tank components. The new proposal envisions an even more ambitious scale — with the creation of thousands of jobs and multi-billion-dollar investments.
The Polish side views the initiative positively. The Polish Ministry of Defense sees partnership with leading European manufacturers as a key element of the army modernization strategy and reducing dependence on external supplies. A final decision on the project is expected in the coming months.
“This is an important step toward strengthening European defense,” a source in the Polish government noted.
Rheinmetall, one of the largest suppliers of weapons to Ukraine and NATO countries, is actively expanding its production capacity across Europe in response to growing demand. In 2025–2026, the company has already launched or announced new projects in Germany, Lithuania, and other countries.
Details of the proposal have not yet been fully disclosed. Negotiations are ongoing, and their outcome could significantly impact the defense-industrial complex of NATO’s entire eastern flank.
