Russian Geran-2 drone strikes residential building in Romanian city of Galati

The Ministry of National Defence of Romania has officially confirmed that the drone which crashed into a residential building in the city of Galati early Friday morning and exploded was a Russian Geran-2 attack drone.

The Romanian Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) reported that the drone struck an apartment on the 10th floor of a multi-storey building. The impact caused a powerful explosion followed by a fire.

According to emergency services, two people were injured and hospitalized. Another two victims suffered panic attacks. A total of 70 residents were evacuated from the building.

Firefighters, bomb disposal teams, and police continue to work at the scene. Part of the building sustained significant damage, with several apartments on the upper floors heavily affected by the explosion and fire.

The Ministry of National Defence of Romania emphasized that the drone wreckage was identified as a Russian Geran-2 UAV.

The incident occurred in the early morning of May 29. Romanian authorities have already strengthened air defense measures in the border areas.
