According to the German tabloid Bild, two individuals were detained at the Serbian-Hungarian border in early June. German authorities suspect them of preparing a sabotage operation on German territory on behalf of Russian intelligence services.
During the search, authorities reportedly found an explosive device in the suspects’ possession. The intended target may have been a German defense industry facility linked to arms supplies for Ukraine. The specific name of the enterprise has not been disclosed.
German media describe the detainees as “disposable agents” — operatives recruited for one-off missions in exchange for relatively small payments. The arrests were made possible thanks to intelligence provided by German security services and partner agencies from allied countries.
